Story behind Jaz and Rabbot

It all started as a gag. I was surfing Facebook on my lunch break at work and I came a crossed this fascinating article about a deep-sea fish that has a see-through head and glowing organs. I instantly had this crazy idea of an alien using this fish as a ship navigating his way and hunting treasures in our vast oceans.
The more I thought of this idea It changed into a character. Enter Jaz

Jaz started as this bounty hunter alien that was out to save a Mermaid Princess from tyranny blah blah blah. After that, I thought that’s crap.
I took a deep dive into my own life and thought of things i wanted to explore. For one, it was the feeling of being different from a lot of other kids growing up. How I felt like an alien at times. But it was not who I wanted to be. I wanted acceptance and support like every other kid. That’s when the spark hit me. How different I was made me look at some of the choices I made growing into an adult. My Identity. I thought what different choices would I have made and who would I be if those choices were wildly different.
So that’s where we are.
I started picking up little story elements from different problems or situations I’ve had but it’s all just creative ingenuity.
On the left are my early first drawings of Jaz and the potential characters.

Rabbot came about from thinking about how much I wanted a pet as a kid. Like a Dog or a rabbit. I wondered what adventures I would have with one of these pets and how different I would be as a person with that as my experience as a kid. So I gave Jaz a sidekick that will assist him on this journey.
Here are the first drafts I came up with.

CHARACTERS

JAZ

Jaz is a survivor of a tragic accident that has left him away from his family and far away from his home.

Unbeknownst to him, Jaz carries a strange artifact that has turned the new world around himself into a chaotic war-zone where he is right in the middle of warring tribes, evil forces after him and looking for ways to get home.

He always dreamed about being a superhero and often dreamed up ways he would handle bullies or anyone that messed with his friends.

KING JAFRE

A deposed ruler of the planet where Jaz is from. He sat on the highest chair of his planet as the supreme ruler. A coup took him from power but left him as the planets military leader and strategist. He has an attachment to the history of his planet and wishes it to get back to its more ancient power hungry ways.

JARANDA

Jaranda is the mother of Jaz and a Elite Martial Trooper in the M.I.D; the Military Defense Force. A small platoon of warrior women that are said to be the best of the planets entire military forces.

Kind and loving but a bit on the stern side; she is Jaz’s guiding conscience and biggest fan.

RABBOT

An  A.I Super Bot that resembles an old military aide from the early days on Jaz’s home planet.

Rabbot is half robot, half entertainment and half warmachine and will be essential to helping Jaz finish the journey home.

TRACKER

No one knows much about him except that it is rumour-ed in some galaxies that its a ghost phantom that haunts anyone holding any kind of special relics. And once he finds you, that’s the last you are seen.
